Saving a Twitter or X video on iPhone is more frustrating than it should be. The Twitter app offers no native download button, and holding your finger on a video in the iOS app doesn't give a save option. The solution: use Vid1080 in Safari. Copy a Tweet URL on iPhone
- 1Open the Twitter or X app on your iPhone
- 2Find the tweet with the video you want to save
- 3Tap the Share button (upward arrow) at the bottom of the tweet
- 4Select "Copy link to Tweet"
- 5The URL is now in your clipboard
Download the Twitter Video in Safari
- 1Open Safari (not Chrome or another browser) on your iPhone
- 2Go to vid1080.com
- 3Tap the URL input box and paste the copied tweet URL
- 4Tap Download — the tweet video info appears
- 5Tap the download button next to the video quality you want
- 6When prompted, tap "Save Video" to save to your Photos app
Saving Twitter Videos to Files Instead of Photos
If you'd rather save the video to the Files app instead of Photos, long-press the download button in Safari when you see the download prompt. Select "Download Linked File" — this saves the MP4 to your Safari Downloads folder inside the Files app. You can then move it to any folder or AirDrop it to another device.
GIF Tweets on iPhone
Twitter GIFs are actually silent MP4 files — they loop like GIFs but are stored and downloaded as video. When you download a tweet GIF through Vid1080, it saves as an MP4 file rather than a .gif file. It plays perfectly in the Photos app and any video player, but it's technically a video, not an animated GIF image.
